Respiratory Depressant Effect of Pentobarbitone in Rabbits

Overview

In this course, the experiment captured in the video would demonstrate the respiratory depressant effect of pentobarbitone. With this as our objective, the laboratory procedure would explain this by observing the effect of pentobarbitone in an induced rabbit.Pentobarbitone, as a non-selective central nervous system depressant, can produce effects ranging from sedation, reduction of anxiety to unconsciousness and death from respiratory depression and cardiovascular failure.

The video lesson in this course would demonstrate the administration of pentobarbitone and its effect after being induced.

Introduction

Pentobarbitone is a short to intermediate acting barbiturate used as a hypnotic and sedative. Barbiturates are non-selective CNS depressants that produce effects ranging from sedation and reduction of anxiety to unconsciousness and death from respiratory depression and cardiovascular failure.

Objectives

This experiment demonstrates the respiratory depressant effect of pentobarbitone.
